Meredith Horton, JD, CPC

Founder and President

Meredith Horton (she/her) is a social justice leader, consultant, attorney, and coach with 20 years of experience supporting social change organizations. As President of MPH Concepts, Meredith advises senior leaders on management, program development, strategy, and talent recruitment. She has a successful track record building and managing high-impact programs and supporting new and seasoned executives as they create cohesive teams; hire talented staff; and build game-changing social justice and civic engagement initiatives.

Her expertise in voter protection work has made her a sought-after advisor to political parties, campaigns, and nonpartisan groups looking to build, expand, and evaluate such programs. In 2024, Meredith served as the National Director for Voter Protection and Access for the Biden-Harris and Harris-Walz campaigns. She led one of the most diverse teams in campaign history, comprised of over 100 staff and tens of thousands of volunteers across 13 battleground and other critical states.

As a Certified Professional Coach (CPC), Meredith is often hired by leaders of color and those exploring career transitions. She is a skilled facilitator and has trained with the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance (AORTA).

Meredith has been a senior leader in organizations ranging from 13 to over 300 in size, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, Southern Coalition for Social Justice, and the Texas Civil Rights Project. She litigated voting rights and consumer protection cases at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and, as Senior Advisor for Voter Protection at the Democratic Party of Georgia, she helped build and lead the state’s nationally-recognized voter protection program in 2016 and 2017. Meredith designed and led grantmaking processes at the Legal Services Corporation, where she also served in a program officer capacity, evaluating nonprofit operations, board governance, and programming at legal aid organizations.

Meredith began her social change career organizing on environmental and consumer protection issues in California and advocating for equitable school funding in New York State. She has a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, and a BA in Urban Studies and Political Science from Barnard College in New York City.

Meredith previously served as the Vice Chair of the Board of Kindred Communities, a DC non-profit that brings communities together to create anti-racist and liberated schools.

  • Thank you so much for joining my Careers in Voting Rights workshop at the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics! The students and staff absolutely raved about you and got so much out of your talk. Your comments about finding ways to take care of yourself for the long haul were an important reminder for me as well - thank you.

  • Meredith was a voice of clarity and encouragement in the early days of my new leadership. She is empathetic, reassuring, and provides resources that I continue to come back to. Her experience and insight is unparalleled – particularly for the public interest leadership sector, and I am glad she is sharing that with the world.

Elaine Poon, Deputy Director for Advocacy, Legal Aid Justice Center

  • Meredith's experience working in the non-profit sector made our sessions invaluable. She understood the dynamics that I was navigating professionally. Meredith has strong instincts and understands people and systems really well. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to work with her.

Patrice James, Executive Director, Illinois Black Advocacy Initiative

  • [Meredith] taught me to check in with my mental and physical health, and how stress had to be acknowledged. [She was] creative and researched interesting techniques to help disrupt my fixed thinking about certain topics. What was perhaps most important was the way [she] gave me permission to be my authentic self, confess difficult truths, and consider different sides.
